Copies of previous minutes, draft audited accounts, etc. will, as usual, be available on the day. Reports from the various Council Committees will be presented and if anyone wishes to put themselves forward for election to Council, again could they please advise this office no later than 8th May.

SEMINAR

Since our formation in 1984, the Lead Contractors Association has steadily built a reputation for quality standards in detailing and workmanship that is the envy of the construction industry. One of the significant foundations of the Association has been our National Seminar at which a series of presentations provide an update of industry developments and information on technical issues, as well as a wide ranging list of topics of interest to all. The final programme is still being confirmed, but this year’s presentations will include an industry update and outlook from the Chairman of the Lead Sheet Association, Joss Campbell. There will be news about the Heritage Skills CSCS card for leadworkers and the National Heritage Training Group’s register of Heritage Contractors that will affect every LCA member. We will also be looking at roof safety systems and other health and safety issues that directly affect our membership. On the technical side, there will be close up case studies so you can see what exactly made the 2008 Murdoch Award winner and Sponsors Award winner stand out from the rest of the entries and there will be a presentation on vetting. In discussing what the vetting officer is looking for and how you can improve your grading, we will also be highlighting common design and installation problems and how to avoid them.  There will also be workshops on using SMM 7 and a demonstration by ConstructionSkills of a Business Management Analysis software package that any organisation can use to help provide an insight into how your business actually operates (as opposed to how you might think it operates).

25th ANNIVERSARY DINNER

In our Silver Jubilee year, we want to supplement the usual business-like atmosphere of our annual general meeting and technical seminar, with a more sociable celebration by way of an Anniversary Dinner. With the superb Forest of Arden Hotel as our venue, we have arranged a very special event to celebrate 25 years of the LCA. A private reception and dinner has been arranged in the Kennilworth and Stratford Suite during which you will be entertained by Chris Priest (British Champion of Close-up Magic and international award-winning magician). We have also commissioned superb artist Geoff Tristram (have a look at his web site!) who will be taking time off from illustrating the poster campaign for Jeremy Clarkson’s new book and caricaturing the players at the World Snooker Finals to spend the evening drawing caricatures of some of those attending the LCA Dinner as their personal memento of the event. For your after dinner entertainment we have organised a fun mini-casino, complete with professional croupiers. Everyone will be given chips with which to “place their bets” and there will be prizes for the most successful gamblers at the end of the evening.

We do hope you will join us in celebrating our 25th Anniversary for what promises to be an interesting day and enjoyable evening.
